Singular depends on CYGWIN as a runtime environment
- unfortunatly, another version of CYGWIN was used for 2-0-0
wrt. 1-3-8. That means, that we recommend to removed the old
Singular - at least the old cygwin environment (I don't know,
if Singular-1-3-8 runs with the new cygwin environment).
The 2 cygwin version cannot coexist on one system...

Yes, you should, because of the different cygwin environment.

Yes, to be more compliant to Windows standards - but it's only a proposal,
you may install it in any directory.

The installation does in principle the following things:
- copy all selected files to the selected directory
(proposal c:Program FileSingular)
- under Win95/98:
edit c:autoexec.bat to set PATH and HOME
(does your system use other means to set PATH and environment variables ?)
- under WinNT/2000:
edit registry to set PATH nand HOME
- under Win95/98:
reboot, in order for the changes to take effect
Here are the things to do/to check:
- the file cygwin1.dll should be in a directory with your path
(c:Program FileSingularbin usually)
and no old version of cygwin1.dll should be around on the system
(use the command "path" in a terminal window to check the PATH)
- the directory containing cygwin1.dll should be in your path
(try to run c:Program FileSingularbinbash.exe)
or check c:autoexec.bat
- the environment variabele HOME should be set:
check c:autoexec.bat

another possibility is, to put cygwin1.ddl directly into the windows-directory
(move or copy it to c:windowssystem32 or c:windowssystem
or whatever your default directory for dll-files is).
